I’ve spent my career somewhere between the data centre and the edge.
I’m Brett. I started in IBM support, then spent the better part of a decade at UQ running IT and high-performance computing for a research institute, owning the budget, the risk, the vendor meetings and the outcomes for researchers. Since then I’ve been the vendor, first at Dell and now at Cloudflare, helping public sector and higher education teams across Australia with cyber security and AI.

Much of that change runs on infrastructure that was never designed to face the public internet. I help teams move forward without compromising assurance: understanding what’s exposed, where controls need to sit, and how to demonstrate compliance along the way.

Securing AI across human and agentic workflows: limiting what agents can reach, treating the content they retrieve as untrusted, and logging what they do, so agencies can adopt AI with confidence, not caveats.

Making Zero Trust practical: access tied to identity and sensible policy, so corporate data stays protected wherever people work best.

How I work
AboutI can talk architecture with an engineering team and risk with an executive, and I try not to recommend anything a team can’t actually deliver. I’d rather you understand the reasoning behind my advice than just take it.
These days I focus on three things: securing and speeding up applications at the edge, making Zero Trust work in environments that already exist, and helping agencies adopt AI safely. Day to day, that might mean untangling a security stack nobody fully owns, sorting out what a migration left unresolved, or helping build a business case.
